I absolutley would not recommend doing a sympathectomy for hyperhidrosis. I had a bilateral one done about ten years ago, and it basically destroyed my life. It took the sweating phenomenon from the hands and face and spread it over the rest of my entire body. I basically percolate in perspiration every minute of every day. It is the most insane thing that I think one can experience, really! I have complete hot-flashes over my entire body, absolutely no temperature tolerance. The absolute slightest movement or even someone moving around me can start me sweating like you would not believe. My clothes are constantly soaked, huge sweat stains on my shirts, pants, etc. My genitals sweat, the backs of my legs sweat almost to an unbelievable level. No medication to date has worked to change this. It is a total nightmare, and the surgery took an annoying very miserable problem into something is simply unreal on its level of suffering. My fingers have horrible sores that never heal because they are so dry. My face feels like someone just sandblasted it becuase there is no, and I mean no, moisture there at all. The temperature changes in my body would mean that I can be in an air-conditioned room with fans on and still feel like I am burning up. The surgery has caused me so much pain and anger and embarrassment that you could not believe it. I lost my life because it just made a real, real mess of the underlying disease which causes all this. Please, please do something else besides the surgery. This is the advice that I would tell you: DO NOT DO IT. DO NOT DO IT. DO NOT DO IT. One year living with this makes up for 100 of what I went through before. Write me if you want so more information, I would be happy to help in any way I can. Thanks. Mike.
